Baby Sweater & Hat, Crocheted Sideways

2 skeins Bernat Softee, white & contrast color (cc). Crochet Hook: 4 mm. Pattern stitch for Yoke: work in single crochet (sc).
SweaterRight Front: With white ch 58.
Shape Armhole: Attach white on 21st stitch from neck edge (beginning of body) and work 4 rows across body sts only, end at armhole edge. Place a marker in center of last stripe to indicate right underarm edge. Do not break yarn. Back: With white, ch 21 for back armhole. With cc work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of remaining 19 chains. Now work across body sts and continue in striped pattern until there are 8 cc and 7 white stripes. Left Armhole & Left Front: Work to correspond with right armhole and right front. Sleeves: With white, ch 40. Starting at underarm seam work 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each of next 27 chs, then work 1 sc in each of remaining 10 chains for cuff. Ch 1, turn. Working in striped pattern, keep the 10 cuff sts in sc and remaining part of sleeve in hdc increasing 1 stitch at end of every hdc row (6) times for cap of sleeve; there should be 2 white stripes and 2 cc stripes. Work straight for 1 white stripe. Work other half of sleeve to correspond, decreasing at end of next cc stripe and continue to decrease to 40 sts. (9 stripes in sleeve) Break yarn. Finishing: Join shoulders across 2 white and 2 cc stripes, leaving remaining stripes of each colour for neck. Sew seams.
CapWith white ch 31. Starting at top edge of back seam, work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each of next 8 chains (top section), work 1 hdc in each of remaining 21 chains. Work in striped pattern same as for jacket until there are 14 stripes. Break yarn and sew seam. This cap can be made with more stitches and then folded back at edge.
